Washoe County Warns Citizens About Fraudulent Solicitation
Regarding Property Tax Reduction Service

Reno, Nevada. August 6, 2009. Washoe County officials are warning citizens about an apparent scam promising property owners that their property taxes can be reduced for a fee of $189.00.

The Washoe County Treasurer's office has received approximately 30 phone calls today from property owners who have received a notice from the Property Tax Review Board located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The organization (which does note that it is not a government agency) has sent an official looking form titled "2009 Property Tax Reduction Form" with an assessor's ID number on it and the property owner's address
offering to file an application requesting that the Washoe County Assessor lower their property taxes for a fee of $189.

Washoe County wants to warn citizens that the Property Tax Review Board is not affiliated with Washoe County or with the State of Nevada. The County Assessor also reminds property owners that any appeals they are entitled to may be made free of charge. Please visit their website at
