A Conversation/Interview with
Arnold “Arnie” Maurins grew up in Santa Clara, Calif., and graduated from the University of Santa Clara with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He started working in libraries in 1979 and earned a Master's degree in Library Science from San Jose State University in 1982. From 1983 to 1995 he worked as a librarian in San Bruno and San Leandro, Calif. In 1995 Arnie was hired as the Systems Librarian for the Washoe County Library. In that position he administered the Dynix automated system and managed the library's computer services. He was promoted to Associate Director for Operations and Support in 2004, with responsibility for budget planning and oversight, strategic planning and facilities management. Arnie belongs to several professional library associations, and in 2006 he was named “Librarian of the Year” by the Nevada Library Association. Return to News or Views
