Reno Planning Commission Approves Wells Avenue Neighborhood Plan

Reno, NV - On December 19 the Reno Planning Commission approved the Wells Avenue Neighborhood Plan, which reflects the current vision and policies for the neighborhood. The plan will go before the Reno City Council at their regular January 16 meeting at Reno City Hall. It is available online at www.cityofreno.com/Index.aspx?page=1004.

The Plan is the result of a collaborative effort involving neighborhood residents, property and business owners, neighborhood stakeholder groups, and the City of Reno. Neighborhood outreach strategies included neighborhood meetings, focus group meetings, informational mailings, Neighborhood Advisory Board updates, and Wells Avenue Merchants Association updates. Participants developed goals for the neighborhood, which include:

  • Protect established residential character of the neighborhood
  • Promote and facilitate neighborhood investment
  • Preserve and highlight history and character of the neighborhood
  • Continue to enhance Wells Avenue as a destination mixed-use district
  • Continue to enhance the pedestrian environment along the Wells Avenue corridor
  • Reinforce Vassar Street as an arts-based mixed use district
  • Enhance the health and safety of the neighborhood
  • Protect and enhance existing park resources
  • Create additional park space in the neighborhood
  • Provide a range of community facilities to serve neighborhood residents
  • Improve circulation and access throughout the neighborhood
"Opinions and comments from residents, property owners and merchants were included and represent the needs and desires of the community, said Tom Stewart, President of the Wells Avenue Merchant and Property Association. "This plan will assist City Council members and help guide them when making decisions concerning Wells Avenue and surrounding neighborhood in the future."
